    Pok Pok

we ate a Pok Pok for the first time last night. Except for the chilly wait outside, it was great. Named Restaurant of the Year by (I think) the Oregonian last year...it had a full house. Described as Thai, it is a far more original take on Thai food than you will find in other Thai place here (as far as I have seen, at any rate.)

We had a mussel crepe, and a papaya salad, neither of which description does the interesting flavors and preparation any justice. Both delicious. I had their "signature" dish as well...1 half game hen with dipping sauce. Good...but not quite the flavor adventure that the other two were.

    All in all...very recommended!

    Medoyeff Vodka

Ate at Park Kitchen finally on Saturday night. I've heard nothing but great things but had never gotten over there. It was fantastic...we sat at the bar, but had a full dinner, the highlight of which was a vodka martini. The vodka was made locally (sort of) in Corvallis. Medoyeff Vodka. Maybe the best vodka martini I've ever had.

    The Doug Fir Lounge

Went to opening night of The Doug Fir Lounge., last Saturday the 9th. Quasi played and they were great as always. Janet Weiss on drums..incredible. This lounge/club vaulted right to the top of the heap in Portland. Great architectural design. Great sound in the club. Cool patio that adjoins the Jupiter Hotel. Here is Randy Gragg's article on the continuing creative renaissance in Portland... he says "A new sign of Portland's coming of age just opened. It's yet another restaurant and club, but unlike any the city has seen before."
