    slouch mag - kevin sampsell

SLOUCH is a west coast magazine   dedicated to storytelling. "a unique voice, compelling subject or   interesting wordplay won't hook a reader without a solid, well told story. we   publish only fiction, five thousand words or less in six bi-monthly issues."

They also podcast...and you can go

    here to hear

Portland's own Kevin Sampsell reading at reed college (part 1 out of 3) with "a cool introduction by Peter Rock".

He will also be reading: Next Thursday, the 20th,  in celebration of the new anthology, Northwest Edge III: The End of Reality (Chiasmus Press). It's at Disjecta (under the Burnside Bridge), starting at 8pm. It's a pretty full evening with music from Mike Daily's band, short films (the book comes with a DVD), and readings by contributors like Zoe Trope and Kevin. He is a major talent and runs the respected publishing house Future Tense. Support your local artists!

    Patti Smith at Powell's

The great Patti Smith made an appearance at Powell's last weekend. She read from her new book of poetry. Below is a video taken with my little Sony Cybershot of her telling a great story about sake, Kung Fu Theater and being a mom, followed by her reading one of my favorite poems "The Writer's Song".
